At first, I thought I read the NY State Parks' tweet wrong. Gift cards are available for camping or golfing at New York State Parks?  What a great idea. Imagine, actually giving the camper or golfer in your life a gift they will like and use.

These gift cards are now available on-line. You can purchase them in any denomination and they have no expiration dates. You can also add value to the card at any time and check the card balance at any participating New York State Park location.

If you're like me and you can't remember the last time you went camping and you're not sure how much to get, the New York State Parks even help with that. According to them, typically $25 to $50 will cover a round of golf or a weekday camping stay, $65 gets you an Empire Passport or most weekend camping stays, and if the camper in your life is more the cabin type, then $120 is the average weekend cost for a cabin.

The camping gift card can be used at most facilities operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. If you want the card fast, it's best to get it in person at your nearest state park, you can also make an order by telephone, or click here to order on-line.

If you'll excuse me, I need to make some adjustments to my Christmas gift list.
