If you're an animal lover and love to keep up to date with what's going on in New York state and the Hudson Valley, then you should definitely follow the DEC on social media.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation shared some adorable and informative pictures on Wednesday March 6th during one of their data collection stops.

On Facebook the DEC wrote that wildlife staff visited a den of a female black bear and her 3 cubs, one boy and two girls to "collected valuable data that will help researchers and biologists monitor black bear populations and health in New York."

The den was located on the Shawangunk Ridge new New Paltz in Ulster county and was home the the 250 pound bear, who was sedated at the time of the data collection. The staffs main goal was to change the bears very high frequency collar so that the DEC can collect more information in the future.

While the adult female bear was tagged, the cubs were not due to their small size, which according to the DEC is 3 pounds.
