If you're a fisherman or fisherwoman, you know that Trout season opens in New York this Sunday and runs through October. Whether it's Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow or hybrids of these species you can catch up to 5 a day throughout the season, with the exception of Lake trout which is only 3. If you have a fishing license of course.

Every Spring the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation start stocking Trout in March and continue through June. The big questions, for some, is where are they stocking the fish, when does it happen, and about how many will they be stocking?

Good news, the 2018 Spring Trout Stocking LIsts are out, so you will have all the information you want about your favorite fishing spot, or maybe a spot you'd like to explore this year. Weather will dictate whether this happens on schedule or not and, of course, the actual number of fish stocked could vary.

Looking quickly at the lists for each county, in Dutchess it appears the biggest stocking will be in Wappingers Creek in Pleasant Valley with almost 4200 Brown trout in April, Orange County it's the Neversink River in Deer Park with almost 4800 brown trout in March and April, Ulster County the place to be is the Ashokan Reservoir East Basin with 8700 brown trout in June, and in Sullivan County it's a tie between White Lake in Bethel with 4350 brown trout in May and Willowemoc Creek in Rockland in April.

Happy Fishing!
