Trout and Salmon Fishing Season Opens
It’s getting closer and closer to real spring like weather here in the Hudson Valley, which means perfect fishing conditions are in the near future.
Speaking of the future…tomorrow, Saturday April 1st, is the official first day for trout and salmon fishing season in all of New York State. The Department of Environmental Conservation is reporting that “trout hatcheries will start stocking catchable-size trout in late March and early April. Due to the mild winter and weather conditions going into this spring, we anticipate these stocking to occur as scheduled.”
If you’re in the Dutchess County area fishing at the Wappingers Creek, Ten Mile River, and Fishkill Creek is looking promising for those looking to catch wild brown trout. For Sullivan County Beaver Kill and Willowemoc Creek who don’t usually see much stock until later in April may see wild brown trout and some hatchery brown trout during opening weekend. In Ulster County at the Esopus Creek there is a chance of wild rainbow and brown trout as well as holdover hatchery brown trout.
