If you are a hunter or trapper, what was it like the first time you went hunting or learned how to trap? Maybe, you have helped introduce hunting or trapping to someone new, what was that experience like, what words of wisdom would you pass on to others who want to share the love of hunting and trapping to someone else?

No matter which description fits you, the New York Department of Conservation wants to hear your story. They are looking for stories about memorable first-time experiences or powerful experiences in introducing the world of hunting to someone new.

There are three categories in which to submit your essay, Junior Youth Hunters/Trappers (grades 6-8), Senior Youth Hunters/Trappers (grades 9-12), and Adult Hunters/Trappers (ages 18 and older). The DEC staff will pick the best essay in each category with the winning essays to be featured in the 2018-2019 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Guide, plus win a $50 gift certificate.

Click here for all of the submission details, including how to add photos to your story. Submissions must be postmarked by March 15, 2018.
